If unsuccessful, we will need to reinstall the operating system, you will need the original install disk & motherboard drivers. If you don't have the motherboard drivers we can try to obtain them off the internet.

Spyware

Spyware & Adware is software that is downloaded on to your computer without your consent whilst you browse the Internet. Even when you remove it, some spyware/adware is capable of just reinstalling itself.

Spyware & Adware is capable of collecting information from your computer, and then for tracking purposes it can transmit a unique code that will identify you and your browsing habits. Spyware transmits information about your computer use without your consent to the offending Publisher.

The Computer Virus

A typical computer virus will infiltrate your computer and infect a file. The virus then activates from within the file, performs its malicious action, and then adds copies of itself to other files. The virus will only replicate itself on the Localhost/Your computer, it cannot independently penetrate other computers. The typical computer virus is only able to infect other computers if it adds a copy to a file that is stored in a shared folder, or on a CD, or if a user sends an e-mail message with an infected attachment. The malicious code can infiltrate various areas within the Windows operating system or application. There are different types and they are based on the environment, macro, file, script & boot viruses.

Generally speaking the most sophisticated modern day threats are posed by Worms & Trojans.

Internet Worms

The most modern threats posed to computers & computer systems are Worms & Trojans. The Internet worm derived its name from its ability to tunnel from one computer to another. After it penetrates the system the worm will perform its malicious action without the users knowledge sending copies of itself through various information channels. Your computer can become infected with a worm via inbound e-mails, or using Instant Messaging Services like MSN Messenger, Skype, AOL Instant Messenger, ICQ and Yahoo Pager.

Internet relay chat systems which are designed to converse with other people in real time are also responsible for the transmission of internet worms to your computer.

Network Worms

TCP/IP is a set of protocols developed to allow co-operating computers to share resources across a network. One of the reasons that TCP/IP Security is so important is that some worms are distributed via computer networks. In English, that means that a worm can propagate/infect your computer, and the source of that infection will be your Internet Service Provider.

Of course, this will not be intentional because Internet worms tunnel through Internet Networks. Network Worms search the Local Area Network's computers (LAN) using programs which contain vulnerabilities. It will send a special TCP/IP Packet containing its code and if there is a vulnerable computer on the Network the computer will receive the packet, when the worm penetrates this vulnerable computer it will activate. Just make sure its not your computer !

Trojans

Unlike worms, Trojans do not make or create copies of themselves. Your computer can become infected with a Trojan when you receive either a malicious e-mail, or simply browse a website that contains malicious code. When you visit an infected website, your computer browser can download that malicious code without your knowledge, and the Trojan will infect your computer. Trojans can disrupt the operation of computer networks & they can erase, modify & block computer data. Trojans are dangerous, and pose a major threat to your Internet security because they can send and receive files. They can also run programs on your computer that will display messages, download and install malicious programs that will run on your computer & even restart the infected computer.

Of all the malicious programs on the Internet the Backdoor Trojan is probably the most dangerous and poses a major threat to the security of your stored/saved personal data. The Backdoor Trojan can install itself without the users knowledge and give the intruder remote management of your computer. As a general rule, never store personal financial information on your computer. If you need to keep a record of something personal or financial just print it off and file it. Never save personal or financial data on your Computer Desktop, or in My Documents, or anywhere else on your computer for that matter, and never allow your computer to save and remember access passwords in the system.
